In 1806, it was discovered by French chemist Louis-Nicolas Voulland and his assistant Pierre-Jean Lobik from asparagus juice, and it was the first amino acid discovered by humans.
Asparagine can facilitate urination, have a certain effect on heart disease, edema, nephritis, gout, kidney stones, and has a sedative effect. Asparagine and its salts can also enhance physical strength, eliminate fatigue, treat general fatigue, loss of appetite, protein metabolism disorders, liver dysfunction, nicotine poisoning, arteriosclerosis, neuralgia, neuritis, hypokalemia, eczema, dermatitis, vision fatigue, hearing loss and tuberculosis.
L-asparagine can also be used to make Aspartame, which can be added to foods and beverages as a sugar substitute.
